World Mental Health Awareness Day Special
This Week I’m joined by Gavin Thorpe one of the Co-Founders of Talk Club the men’s mental fitness charity. we take look into the excellent work they are doing.
Talk Club is our charity of choice at the financial planner life academies, 5% of the turnover of donated to Talk Club.
How are you? Out of ten? And when was the last time someone asked you that? It’s often difficult to gauge the way you feel when the career you work in moves at 110 miles per hour.
Opening up with others about our concerns, fears, and challenges can be a powerful thing, a tool that we (especially men) don’t use enough, but men do struggle to open up with each other, and this is often true within the heavily male-dominated financial planning profession.
Which got me thinking, what if there was a safe and secure place for men within the profession to connect and support each other?
Enter: Talk Club Financial Planner Life.
So, what Is Talk Club?
Talk Club is a behavior-changing movement aimed at getting men to talk more openly about their thoughts, feelings, worries, and day-to-day gripes (and all the positive things too!). it’s a secure mental health fitness community helping keep men mentally fit by giving them a friendly and private space to share and support others.
It’s a simple medicine that starts with asking – How are you? Out of 10?
Each session is structured as follows:
- The Check-in – How are you? Out of ten?
- Positives in our life (Gratitude)
- Mental fitness plans – What are we going to practice and implement this week?
- The Check-out – Leave feeling a release, has your number changed
Get Involved
This is not only a great opportunity for individuals to get involved, but for companies to think about their mental wellness in the workplace policy. A fantastic tool you can use to signpost to your male employees.
We are on a mission to create face-to-face and online Financial Planner Life Talk Clubs all over the UK, specifically for financial planning professionals experiencing similar challenges in their lives. If you’d like to become a group captain, join as an individual, or simply hear more about some options. Get in touch today. Let’s open the conversation and get people talking.
We welcome all who feel they can benefit from this community and all we ask is for a nominal donation of as little as £1 a week to help these services to help you and people like you, everywhere.
