Describe your career to date:
In 2015 I graduated from university with a 2:1 degree in business studies, I then went travelling for 4 months and joined Recruit UK. When I joined I had no true understanding of recruitment and had no real understanding of the financial services. I was provided with extensive training and support, and 6 months in, became a fully-fledged recruitment consultant. A year and half later i’m now a regional manager of the South West!
What do you do on a normal day?
My normal day is recruiting and developing existing and new relationships with clients and candidates in the South West Region for all back office and support roles. I am also Regional Manager of the South west team so I support, train and guide three team members John Anderson who recruits for the Financial Advisers, Investment Managers and Wealth management Consultants. Keely Parsons who recruits for the back office and support roles within Cornwall, Devon and Dorset and Lacey Catley who is our Trainee Recruitment Consultant.
What do you enjoy most about working at Recruit UK?
The friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Everyone here is like family we all get on really well, plenty of banter throughout the day and we all support each other inside and outside of work. I also enjoy the flexible working hours, it means to say that I’m still able to compete my horse during the week and socialise with my friends.. we don’t work ridiculous hours! There is opportunity for career development, I joined Recruit UK fresh from university as a trainee consultant and have now worked my way into a regional manager role.
What challenges do you face on a daily basis?
Id say one of the biggest challenges as a recruitment consultant is the number of plates you have to spin and there’s always a few curve balls thrown in to try and unbalance you however, ensuring you are organised and your day is “structured” will help overcome this challenge
What do you think are the most important skills needed to do your job?
Confident, organised, eager to learn, the desire to succeed.
What would you consider to be a good day in your role?
Someone in the team getting an offer is always a great buzz! however seeing someone develop and take on responsibility is also very rewarding.
What is the best tip you can think of to give someone wanting to do what you do?
Just go for it! Get in touch we are always keen to speak to people who are keen to get into recruitment.
